Aiming for the 2023 SEA Games Gold Medal, Erick Thohir Is Touched by the U-22 Indonesian National Team’s Determination

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir admitted that he was moved by the determination shown by the U-22 Indonesian National Team players ahead of the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia.

The reason is, they have ambitions to win a gold medal in football which has been absent for 32 years for Indonesia in sports competitions multievent in Southeast Asia.

“Earlier we met – players and officials, exco, all management – ​​to talk heart to heart what we are targeting,” said Erick after the announcement of the U-22 Indonesian National Team squad for the SEA Games at the Sultan Hotel, Jakarta, Friday (21/ 4/2023).

“I am touched, because regarding this target, it was the players who said, ‘We want the best, we want to try for Indonesia’. No orders, no coercion. This is what is expensive for us, when players use their hearts to be able to fly the Red and White flag,” he continued.

For this reason, Erick and his staff intend to oversee the struggle of the Garuda Nusantara squad while in the country of Angkor Wat. He also hopes that the currently formed line-up can continue to gain achievements in other international events.

“We as PSSI, exco, officials, wesupportencourage, and protect our generation so that it doesn’t only fight for the SEA Games, but events big in the future, “said the figure who is also the Minister of BUMN.

“We are serious about making the future of Indonesian football as we always say, (ie) achievement. It’s not easy, but if we have the intention, the nawaitu, the will, we’ll try it.”
