Annoyed by Punishment, Mourinho Leaves the UEFA Council
– Upset because he was banned from accompanying his team, AS Roma made Coach Jose Mourinho decide to leave his position on the UEFA football board. The dismissal letter was sent by Mourinho addressed to the chairman of the UEFA Football Council, Zvonimir Boban.
“As a thank you for the invitation you extended me to become a member of the UEFA football board, I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will be leaving my participation in this group,” Mourinho said.
“The conditions that I believed in when I joined are no longer valid and I feel obliged to make this decision. I beg you to also convey my decision to the President, Aleksander Ceferin,” he continued.
Mourinho previously received a four-game ban for swearing at referee Anthony Taylor after his team lost in the Europa League final.
Nickname coach The Special One he repeatedly poured out his frustration on the Premier League referee, Taylor, throughout the game. Not satisfied, Mourinho even waited for Taylor in the car park and scolded him with harsh words.
Mourinho only joined UEFA’s board in April when it was founded by Boban and former official Roberto Rosetti. The council is made up of past and present coaches and players and aims to tackle major issues in European football.
