Beat Roma, Atalanta Maintain Hope of the Top Four

The Atalanta club maintained their hopes of finishing in the top four in the Italian Serie A League, with a 3-1 home win over AS Roma on Monday (24/4/2023) evening local time.

Victory was achieved thanks to goals from Mario Pasalic, captain Rafael Toloi and Teun Koopmeiners who ended a three-game winning streak in Serie A, visiting Roma.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have 52 points in seventh place, two points behind Inter Milan (54) who occupy the final European qualifying spot and four points from fifth-placed Roma and fourth-placed AC Milan who both have 56 points.

Atalanta broke the deadlock near half-time through Pasalic’s spectacular volley after running on to a cross from Duvan Zapata in the 39th minute.

Atalanta doubled their lead in the 74th minute when Toloi volleyed home a deflection after a header from a corner had been denied by Roma keeper Rui Patricio.

Lorenzo Pellegrini pulled Roma back seven minutes from time with an elegant finish into the bottom corner after running from midfield to the edge of the box.

But a minute later the Koopmeiners scored after Patricio sent the ball his way.
