Court blocks Joelma’s passport due to a labor debt – Cidades na Net

Singer Joelma had her passport blocked by decision of judge Gustavo Augusto Pires de Oliveira, from the 11th Labor Court of Recife. The measure comes amid a labor lawsuit in which the singer and the company she maintained with her ex-husband, Ximbinha, were ordered to pay more than R$1 million to a former manager of the band Calypso.

Joelma's defense, notified of the order this Wednesday (20/03), plans to file a habeas corpus for the singer's benefit. Lawyers argue that the judge's decision violates the constitutional right to come and go, as well as to exercise her profession, considering that Joelma is abroad for work.

Execution of labor action

The labor action is in the execution phase, which means that the Court is seeking measures to settle the amount owed to the former businessman. In 2021, the value of the process was calculated at R$843 thousand. Today, the value already exceeds R$1 million.

The Labor Court ordered the blocking of amounts that would be paid to the singer due to shows performed by her. This occurred with R$ 125 thousand that would be transferred to the singer by the municipality of Caruaru, in the interior of Pernambuco. The value ended up being seized.

Justification for blocking

When determining the blocking of Joelma's passport, the judge cited the repeated frustration of measures taken by the court to execute the sentence imposed on the singer. According to him, searches were carried out on a series of databases and only properties with various judicial restrictions were found.
