Disregarding Good Friday Worship Procedures, Police Officer in Kupang Arrested

Kupang, Beritasatu.com – A police officer in Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara was arrested for allegedly defiling the Good Friday worship procedures at GMIT Kupang City, Friday (29/3/2024).

The officer has the initials Inspector DH who serves as Head of the Legal Section (Kasikum) at the Kupang City Police.

Kupang City Police Chief, Police Commissioner Aldinan Manurung, confirmed the alleged act of desecrating banquet procedures carried out by his subordinates.

“We deeply regret this incident because it will have a negative impact on other religious activities. We will give those concerned strict sanctions with a code of ethics and discipline,” said Aldinan, Saturday (30/3/2024).

He confirmed that Inspector DH had been detained in the Kupang City Police Headquarters detention room since Friday evening after the banquet.

“We arrested the person concerned yesterday and an inspection was carried out by Propam,” said Aldinan.

Aldinan explained that Kupang City Police Propam investigators had summoned and examined several witnesses from the congregation and church administrators.

“We have taken firm and measured action,” stressed Aldinan without mentioning the threat of punishment that would be imposed on Inspector DH.

He mentioned the case of religious blasphemy committed by Inspector DH while attending a holy communion service to commemorate Good Friday, taking communion wine more than once.

“We were reprimanded by the church administrator who was distributing communion wine, but the person concerned ended up arguing,” he said.

The person concerned took two shots at once and then drank. “He took it again so he was reprimanded for violating the rules of worship during the banquet procession, but he (Inspector DH) actually got into a fight with the church administrators,” he added.

Aldinan explained that after receiving a report regarding the incident, Inspector DH was immediately arrested by the Kupang City Police Propam.

Aldinan said that Inspector DH is the officer appointed to carry out supervision and security at the GMIT Church in Kupang City during the Samana Santa operation which is being carried out by the NTT Regional Police.

He also attended the Holy Communion service during the Good Friday celebration in the third service which took place at 19.00 WITA.

The Samana Santa operation is in the context of protecting the Christian Tri-Holy Days celebration of Good Friday and Easter.
