Entering the Quarter-Finals of BAC 2023, Gregoria Mariska doesn’t want to appear burdened

Indonesian female badminton player, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung achieved her target of reaching the quarter-finals of the BAC 2023 women’s singles or Badminton Asia Championships after defeating compatriot Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi, Thursday (27/4/2023) evening time in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

“The target has been reached for the quarter-finals, tomorrow as usual you don’t want to burden yourself, because you are afraid it will not be good for yourself,” said Gregoria via PP PBSI’s official information in Jakarta, Friday (28/4/2023).

Had lost in games first due to using the wrong strategy, Gregoria finally got up and secured two games consecutively, thus posting a final score of 15-21, 21-13, 21-18.

“But I try to remind myself not to think about the result, I think about how to stay fight on the court and how to get out of pressure,” said the badminton player from Wonogiri, Central Java.

Before ensuring her victory, Gregoria almost lost two straight games because even at the start of the second game she had difficulty managing Komang’s pressure.

Included on games third, the world’s 12th ranked women’s singles also initially lagged behind. He also felt the tension when he was under that pressure.

Gregoria also switched to playing more patiently and defensively, which in fact later benefited from the various mistakes made by Komang.

“I tried to defend and he even made a lot of unforced errors. Maybe because this is our first meeting in a match where the pressure is different from training,” he said again.

After going through a tough match, Gregoria wants to focus on physical recovery, bearing in mind that her potential opponent in the quarter-finals will be more difficult. His meeting with Komang proves to have drained Gregoria’s stamina.
