Hybrid Solar Eclipse is a Unique and Special Phenomenon, What’s the Reason?

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The BRIN Space Research Center (National Innovation Research Agency) calls the Hybrid Solar Eclipse a unique and special solar eclipse.

According to Associate Researcher at the BRIN Space Research Center, Johan Muhammad, the uniqueness of the Hybrid Solar Eclipse is that this solar eclipse is visible from parts of the Earth as a total solar eclipse. However, in some other areas, it appears as an annular solar eclipse.

He said, the hybrid solar eclipse occurs due to the changing distance between the curved surface of the Earth and the Moon as an object that blocks the Sun during a solar eclipse.

Johan said, Hybrid Solar Eclipse is a very special eclipse because it rarely happens. For your information, Hybrid Solar Eclipses do not occur every year, therefore it is called a unique and special phenomenon.

Finally, this phenomenon can be seen on November 3, 2013 in South America. This year, April 20, 2023, the Hybrid Solar Eclipse can be observed again and the location is in Indonesia.

“In Indonesian territory, the solar eclipse occurring on April 20 will be observed as a total solar eclipse and a partial solar eclipse,” he said, as quoted from BRIN’s official statement.

He explained, the total solar eclipse will be observed in the eastern part of Indonesia which is relatively short, less than one minute.

The first annular solar eclipse of 2021 will take place today, Thursday 10 June. This celestial phenomenon occurs just a few days after the phenomenon of the Red Moon Eclipse and Total Lunar Eclipse occurred on May 26.
