Japanese GP, Verstappen Wins, Red Bull Finishes in 1st and 2nd Position
Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – Max Verstappen, three-time world champion, won the Japanese Grand Prix on Sunday (7/4/2024), beating teammate Sergio Perez. These results made Red Bull finish in first and second positions.
Despite failing to finish at the Australian Grand Prix two weeks ago, Verstappen led the race at Suzuka from start to finish after starting from pole position and took his third win from four Grands Prix this season.
As reported AFP, with a 12.535 second advantage over Perez, the Dutch racer crossed the finish line at the front. Perez himself finished in second place, followed by Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz who was in third place.
Verstappen put in his best performance after experiencing brake problems in Melbourne, which was the first time in two years he failed to finish a race.
Starting the race from position pole For the fourth time this season, Verstappen asserted his dominance by beating Perez from the first corner.
Verstappen stated previously that Suzuka is one of his favorite circuits, and this victory marked the third consecutive victory at the Japanese Grand Prix.
Sainz, who finished third, managed to get ahead of his Ferrari teammate, Charles Leclerc.
McLaren driver Lando Norris finished fifth, ahead of Fernando Alonso who races for Aston Martin.
Mercedes' George Russel beat Oscar Piastri to finish seventh. Another Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton, was in ninth position.
Home driver Yuki Tsunoda finished 10th for Red Bull, taking his first points in a home Grand Prix.
The race was marked by a red flag incident on wipe second after the collision between Daniel Ricciardo and Alex Albon from the Williams team.
The front wing of Albon's car was caught in the back of Ricciardo's car as the two competed for the best position. This accident caused both of them to stop after hitting the dividing wall.
The battle between the other riders continued, while Verstappen left Perez behind on the pace.
Even though it was led by Leclerc after Verstappen came in pit On the 17th lap, Verstappen was able to reclaim the leading position four laps later.
A fierce battle between Verstappen and Perez allowed Norris to retain third place from the two Ferrari drivers. However, Norris' wrong decision meant he failed to finish on the podium.
Sauber's Zhou Guanyu had to give up due to problems gearbox on the 19th lap.
Formula 1 will resume in two weeks with the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai. This will be the first time Formula 1 has been held in China since 2019, before the country was not included in the racing calendar due to the pandemic.
