Menpora Dito Says U-17 World Cup Budget Reaches IDR 400 Billion

– Menpora Dito Ariotedjo said that the budget for holding the 2023 U-17 World Cup in Indonesia reached IDR 400 billion. This nominal was calculated after coordinating with the general chairman of PSSI, Erick Thohir.

Before the budget is set, Menpora Dito and Erick Thohir will hold a limited meeting (ratas) with President Joko Widodo.

“So the request from the Ketum (Erick Thohir), the budget is actually not far from the U-20 (World Cup). So we will bring this to the rata to ask for further directions from the president. Rangearound IDR 400 (billion),” said Dito at the Kemenpora Building, Jakarta, Friday (7/7/2023).

The IDR 400 billion budget includes the remaining funds from the 2023 U-20 World Cup which was canceled in Indonesia.

Previously, the 2023 U-20 World Cup was supposed to be held from May 20 to June 11. However, the tournament that Lionel Messi once won was canceled in Indonesia due to protests against the Israeli national team’s massive participation.

The total budget for the U-20 World Cup at that time reached IDR 500 billion for the six stadiums, namely Gelora Bung Karno Stadium (Jakarta), Jakabaring Stadium (Palembang), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung), Manahan Stadium (Solo), Gelora Bung Tomo (Surabaya), and Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium (Bali).

Menpora said the budget allocated for the U-20 World Cup now has Rp 243 billion left. “Yesterday I explained, we have 243 billion remaining from the remaining U-20 preparations. Now one of the things we will discuss at the ratas is to add to the budget post (U-17 World Cup),” said Dito.

The 2023 U-17 World Cup will take place in Indonesia from 10 November to 2 December 2023.
