Postponed 3 Times, AIMAG Will Be Held Next Year
– It was decided to postpone the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) which was scheduled to take place in November 2023 in Thailand until next year. This decision was taken at the 42nd OCA General Assembly which was held last weekend.
The postponement of AIMAG was proposed by Dato Seri Chaiyapak Siriwat, Vice President of OCA for 6th AIMAG.
“As the host, we also proposed to the OCA to be able to postpone AIMAG from November 2023 to February 24 – March 6, 2024. This is due to general elections that will be held in Thailand and a new government change, which can cause delays in funding,” said Dato Series.
This is the third time AIMAG has been delayed. In fact, the sixth edition of AIMAG was held on 21-30 May 2021. However, it could not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic until 10-19 March 2022
However, the Thai Olympic Committee again asked that the holding of AIMAG be postponed to November 17-26. The reason at that time was due to the Covid-19 pandemic situation which had not been completely controlled.
Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC Indonesia) Raja Sapta Oktohari said the postponement was believed to make the athletes’ preparations more optimal.
Okto, Raja Sapta’s nickname, became one of the delegates at the OCA General Assembly. Okto was present accompanied by the Executive Committee Harry Warganegara, Josephine Tampubolon, Antonius Adi Wirawan, Krisna Bayu, Hifni Hasan and Deputy Secretary General Daniel Loy. One of the missions carried is to maintain the good name of Indonesia.
“With this change, athletes can prepare more time to achieve maximum performance at AIMAG. Apart from that, 2024 will also increase our multi-event agenda, namely AIMAG Thailand and the 2024 Paris Olympics,” said Okto in Jakarta, Monday (10/7/2023).
The OCA General Assembly also decided that the seventh edition of AIMAG was postponed to one year. It is planned that the seventh edition of AIMAG will be held in the city of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2025, and with this decision the holding of the event will take place in 2026.
