Qualifying for the Second Round of BAC 2023, Chico Prays for Jonatan Christie’s Recovery

Indonesian men’s singles badminton player Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo has qualified for the second round of the Asian Championships or Badminton Asia Championships (BAC 2023). In the first match against Kazakh player, Dmitriy Panarin, Wednesday (26/4/2023), Chico won two straight games 21-13, 21-11.

Chico’s move, which progressed smoothly into the second round, followed in the footsteps of Anthony Sinisuka Ginting who finished the resistance from Taiwan’s player Wang Tzu Wei 21-16, 21-17. Meanwhile, another Indonesian representative, Jonatan Christie, withdrew after experiencing vomiting and was taken to the hospital (hospital).

After the match against Panarin, Chico admitted that the adaptation process on the field went smoothly.

“First of all, thank God for finishing the match well. From the start I immediately pressed the opponent, the tempo was accelerated, the pattern was also more attacking because the ball was fast. The field adaptation was all ok,” said Chico in Dubai, quoted from a written statement by PP PBSI .

The 24-year-old player also hopes that his senior, Jonathan Christie, can recover soon.

“Sad when I know that Jo can’t play here. Yesterday during the last practice, he was very ready to compete, it was really good. In the afternoon I went to his room to find he was vomiting, definitely sad. I pray that Jo will get well soon and can immediately return to the field,” said Chico.

In the second round, Chico will face India’s Prannoy Haseena Sunil Kumar. Meanwhile, Ginting, the second seed in the tournament, will face Japan’s singles, Kenta Nishimoto.

The second round of the Badminton Asia Championships will be held on Thursday (27/4/2023) at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
