SEA Games: Beat the Philippines, Indonesia leads Group A

– Indonesia won a landslide victory 3-0 over the Philippines in the inaugural match of Group A qualification for the 2023 SEA Games, Saturday (29/4/2023) at the Olympic Stadium, Phnom Penh. The goals from Indra Sjafri’s team were scored by Marselino Ferdinan, Irfan Jauhari and Fajar Fathur Rahman.

The victory in this inaugural match brought Indonesia to temporarily lead the Group A standings with 3 points. Another Group A preliminary match between Cambodia and Timor Leste will be held from 19.00 WIB also at the Olympic Stadium Stadium, Phnom Penh.

The Indonesian coach, Indra Sjafri, deployed a 4-3-3 formation in the Red and White team’s first action. He fielded three players in the front row consisting of Jeam Sroyer, Ramadhan Sananta and Witan Sulaeman.

The middle row was entrusted to Beckham Putra, Ananda Raehan and Marselino Ferdinan. While the back row was filled with Rio Fahmi, Rizky Ridho, Alfeandra Dewangga, and Pratama Arhan. The goalkeeper position was entrusted to Ernando Ari.

In the Philippines, they use a 4-2-2 formation. The goalkeeper position was filled by Quincy Kammeraad. He was supported by a line of defenders consisting of David Setters, Santiago Rublico, Noah Leddel and Kamil Amirul.

The lineup is credited to Jacob Pena, Gavin Muens, Dennis Chung and Yrick Gallantes. The striker duet was filled with Andres Aldeguer, Pocholo Bugas.

Indonesia immediately kicked off when the game has been running for two minutes. WItan Sulaeman he fired a long-range shot that was right at the Philippines goal. However, the Persija Jakarta player’s hard kick was pushed over by goalkeeper Quincy Kammeraad and only resulted in a corner kick.

In the sixth minute, the Philippines put pressure on the Indonesian defense line. However, the action of Rob Gier’s team was successfully suppressed by the Indonesian players. Six minutes later, Indonesia returned to attack from the right flank. But the defense of the Philippines managed to thwart these opportunities into goals.

In the 21st minute, the Philippines tried to create an opportunity but their bait in front of the Indonesian goal was cut by goalkeeper Ernando. Soon it was Indonesia’s turn to get the chance. Arhan releases a pass from the left but no friend has managed to take advantage of it.

Three minutes later, Sanantha fired a shot towards goal but it went wide. Not long after, Indonesia again got another chance. Ananda Raehan fired a hard kick right at the Philippines goal. However, his shot failed to produce a goal because the goalkeeper could catch it.

Eleven minutes later, Indonesia returned to the pressure. The ball was then executed by Jeam Kelly Sroyer. However, the action of the Persik Kediri striker only resulted in a goal kick because it went wide of the target.

When the second half entered the 60th minute, Indonesia was awarded a penalty after Witan Sulaeman was violated by Filipino defender, Santiago Rublico. Rizky Ridho stepped forward as the executioner. But the Indonesian team captain’s shot was pushed over by goalkeeper Quincy Kammeraad.

In the 71st minute, Irfan Jauhari was brought on to replace Sananta. Indonesia had several opportunities that Witan Sulaeman and Irfan Jauhari had, but due to their rush, these opportunities failed to produce goals.

In the 80th minute, Indonesia actually broke into the Philippines goal thanks to Irfan’s action following Arhan’s shot. However, this goal was disallowed by the referee because Arhan was considered off side.

Indonesia finally scored the second goal in the 89th minute. Irfan Jauhari scored a goal after working one-two with Taufany Muslihuddin.

Not long after, Indonesia scored its third goal. This time the goal was scored by Fajar Fathur Rahman. Player number 14 scored after taking advantage of a long-range pass from the right that was sent by Rio Fahmi.

This victory made Indonesia temporarily lead the Group A standings with three points.
