Stumbling over a rape case, former Man City player Benjamin Mendy found innocent

– Former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy has been found not guilty of raping a young woman and attempted rape of another young woman.

The 28-year-old player broke down in tears as the judge handed down a not guilty verdict after a three-week trial at Chester Crown Court.

He stood while the verdict was being read. But soon he was back in his chair, with his head on his knees, wiping his tears with a tissue.

Mendy, whose contract with the Premier League champions expired on July 1, was found not guilty of attempted rape of a woman, then aged 29, at her luxury home in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire in October 2018.

He was also found not guilty of raping a second woman, aged 24, two years later also at his home address.

The judges consisting of six men and six women discussed for about 3 hours and 15 minutes before delivering their verdict.

“Mr Mendy was acquitted of all charges,” Judge Steven Everett said.

Mendy earlier this year was acquitted of six counts of rape and one count of sexually assaulting four young women.
