Sudirman Cup Results: Eliminate Japan, China Challenges Korea in the Final

– China surprisingly managed to advance to the 2023 Sudirman Cup final after defeating Japan 3-2 in the semifinals at the Suzhou Olympic Sports Center, Saturday (20/5/2023) evening.

Barely losing after trailing 1-2, China rose in the fourth match and secured victory in the last match.

Japan opened a 1-0 lead through the victory of Kyohei Yamashita/Naru Shinoya in the first party. They managed to beat Feng Yan Zhe/Huang Dong Ping in a fierce match of three games for 1 hour 46 minutes with a score of 26-24, 18-21, 24-22.

China replied in the second party through the victory of Shi Yu Qi. Facing Kodai Naraoka, Shi Yu Qi managed to win in three games with a score of 13-21, 21-15, 21-17.

Score 1-1.

Japan returned to a 2-1 lead after in the third party, women’s singles Akane Yamaguchi defeated Chen Yu Fei 21-14, 21-15.

China has not given up. Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi, who almost lost, went all out before finally surprisingly succeeding in defeating Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi 17-21 21-19 22-20.

Chen/Yi almost lost when they trailed 17-20 in the third game. However, they were able to bounce back by gaining five consecutive points to close the game with a 22-20 victory.

The 2-2 score forced the game to continue in the fifth party.

In the decisive match, the women’s doubles Chen Qing Chen/Jia Yi Fan who appeared confident without encountering much difficulty defeated Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota in two straight games 21-11, 21-6.

In the final round, China will face Korea, Sunday (21/5/2023) tomorrow.
