Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Approaching Eid al-Fitr 2023, every Muslim is required to spend their assets to pay zakat fitrah. Payment of zakat fitrah is made during the month of Ramadan until before sunrise on Eid al-Fitr 2023.
Muslims are required to pay zakat fitrah to cleanse the body and soul, to welcome themselves back to nature during the holidays.
QS At-Taubah verse 103 says, “Take zakat from some of their property, with that zakat you clean and purify them.”
Citing page Dhuafa Wallet, Monday (17/4/2023), all Muslims, without exception, are required to pay zakat fitrah. This is based on a hadith narrated from Ibn Umar.
“Rasulullah SAW gave zakat fitrah in the amount of one sha of dry dates or one sha of wheat, for all Muslims, both slaves and free people, both men and women, both children and adults. He ordered to fulfill it before people go out to perform the Eid prayer,” as reported in HR Al-Bukhari and Muslim.
With this hadith, it means that newborn babies before the maghrib call to prayer on the 1st of Shawwal are also required to pay zakat fitrah 2023, their parents or guardians bear the zakat. People who are sick and unable to pay zakat, then their closest person or family can represent them to pay zakat.
Zakat fitrah must also be calculated properly and correctly. Because every year the nominal amount of zakat fitrah always changes. This is influenced by movements in currency values and changes in staple food prices.
So, how do you calculate the amount of zakat fitrah in 2023?
First, it must be understood that in each region, residents have different types of staple food. For example, at the time of the Prophet Muhammad, Muslims paid zakat fitrah with wheat or dates which were the staple food at that time.
In contrast to Indonesia, payment of zakat fitrah can use rice. This is because rice is a staple food for Indonesians. Therefore, the amount of zakat fitrah 2023 in nominal money is in accordance with the prevailing staple food prices.
According to the National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas), rice or staple food in Indonesia weighs 2.5 kg or 3.5 liters per person.
The nominal amount of the money adjusts to where the zakat fitrah payer or muzakki resides.
