The Budget from the Government Does Not Dissolve The Reasons for Bali Retreating as Host of the World Beach Games

– Bali has withdrawn from being the host of the 2023 ANOC World Beach Games because the government’s funding has not been disbursed.

The cause of Bali’s withdrawal from hosting the beach sports Olympics was disclosed by the National Olympic Committee Association (ANOC) in their official statement issued, Tuesday (4/6/2023).

ANOC has announced that the ANOC World Beach Games (AWBG) 2023 to be held in Bali has been cancelled.

“It is with surprise and disappointment that ANOC learns that the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia) has withdrawn from its commitment to host the ANOC World Beach Games and the ANOC General Assembly in August 2023,” the ANOC said.

ANOC continued that with a multi-discipline beach sports event scheduled to take place in the coming month, a decision notified at that time was deemed too late. This made it difficult for ANOC to find a replacement host.

“Therefore, there is no choice but to cancel this year’s edition of the Olympics which will be held in Bali in August, as well as the ANOC General Assembly,” he added.

A decision on the new location and date will be taken in the coming weeks.

“KOI stated that this decision was taken after the government did not allocate a budget and there was no more time to organize this Olympics. ANOC is deeply disappointed by KOI’s actions which will prevent athletes from the 100 eligible NOCs from achieving their ambition to participate in these Olympics,” said ANOC.

ANOC also apologizes to NOCs, athletes and International Federations (IF) who have been committed partners for this event, as well as to fans around the world.

“Despite challenges in preparation for the Olympics, as has occurred in other major multidiscipline sporting events, ANOC has regularly been given assurances by KOI that a solution will be found and the Games will go ahead as planned,” ANOC said.

“ANOC and KOI have had weekly coordination meetings recently, and KOI has shown absolutely no issues that would lead to this kind of result. ANOC’s main priority at this time is to ensure support to the athletes and provide the best possible compensation to NOC and IF. regarding the cancellation of the Olympics,” he added.
