Twitter Suddenly Requires Netizens to Have an Account If You Want to View Tweets, What’s Up?

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Twitter is making sudden changes to its platform again. This time, if netizens want to view content or tweets, they are required to have an account.

Previously, users who didn’t have a Twitter account could still browse the tweets on Elon Musk’s social media platform.

People outside of Twitter are only required to create an account if they want to give likes or leave a comment on a Tweet.

With this change, users who don’t have or haven’t logged in to their Twitter account will get requests log in or create a new account, when clicking on a Tweet, user profile, or thread.

To quote The Verges, Saturday (1/7/2023), Twitter made no public announcement regarding this change. Thus, some people are confused whether this is a technical error or intentional.

However, Elon Musk via his Twitter account claims that this change is a “temporary emergency measure.”

“We are experiencing a lot of data looting to the point of degrading services for normal users,” Elon Musk said in response to an account tweet @TitterDaily.

Furthermore, in his reply to Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, Musk also complained about how paywalls and accounts are breaking the internet.

“Several hundred organizations (possibly more) scrape Twitter data very aggressively, to the point where it affects the actual user experience,” he said.

Quoted from Tech CrunchMusk, who although no longer CEO but still involved in operations, may also be motivated by a desire to prevent artificial intelligence or AI tools from traversing Twitter.

Elon Musk previously rebuked Microsoft, which removed Twitter from its advertising platform, saying: “They practice illegally using Twitter data. Time for a lawsuit.”
