Welcome Veddriq, Menpora Will Fully Support Rock Climbing Towards the Olympics

– Rock climbing world record breaker Veddriq Leonardo arrived in Indonesia to be greeted by the Minister of Youth Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo. A group of Indonesian long cliff athletes arrived at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Monday (1/5/203) evening.

The Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Dito Ariotedjo stepped in to welcome the athletes at the IFSC-Climbing World Cup event in South Korea.

Dito appreciated Veddriq Leonardo who was able to break the world record at the IFSC-Climbing World Cup in South Korea with a record time of 4.98 seconds.

“Veddriq’s record in terms of statistics, we are talking statistically, we should be able to record this in 2024 as a potential Olympic gold medalist,” said Dito at Soetta Airport.

Then Dito said that the government, especially the Ministry of Youth and Sport, would certainly continue to provide full support for coaching athletes in preparation for various championships.

“We will definitely fully support it, especially since this is a sport with great potential. We certainly support it in the preparation steps for the Pelatnas and also training–training abroad. The basis is clear, rock climbing incised a world record in the World Cup event. This is an example of other sports. During achievements, it will be easier for the state tosupport,” he said.

Dito then thanked the General Chairperson of the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation (FPTI) Yenny Wahid who participated in accompanying and has been coaching the rock climbing athletes well.

“Thank you to the general chairman of the wall climbing sport Mbak Yenny. Earlier I heard that in coaching this branch, physical and psychological training had been collaborated, and this is what we are also trying to encourage for other sports branches,” said Dito again.

Meanwhile Veddriq Leonardo said he was grateful to be able to make Indonesia proud by winning a gold medal as well as breaking a world record in the men’s number speed in the IFSC-Climbing World Cup event in South Korea.

“Thank God, Indonesia used to celebrate gold medals in the men’s number speed and also the bronze (medal) in the women’s, and thank God there is an additional bonus as well we can break the record of 4.98 seconds and that is very extraordinary in my opinion,” said Veddriq.

At the same location, Yenny Wahid admitted that he was very grateful for the achievements of the rock climbing athlete. They will continue to concentrate on events other.

Veddriq appeared in the World Cup qualifying round which took place in Seoul, on Friday (28/4/2023), and managed to become first on the standings board, as well as breaking the record number speed son.

Record speed the previous son, held by Kiromal Katibin with a record time of 5.00 seconds. This record was recorded by Katibin when he appeared at the IFSC World Cup in Chamonix, France, on 8 July 2022.
