Winning 2023 SEA Games Medals, Six Unitomo Student Athletes Receive Masters Scholarships

– Six student athletes at the University of dr. Soetomo (Unitomo) Surabaya, a medal winner at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, returned home to the city of Surabaya, Tuesday (23/5/2023). Arriving in Surabaya, they were rewarded with a master’s degree scholarship from Unitomo, the university where they studied from.

Located in the Lobby of the Unitomo Campus, these students were also welcomed with a number of conveniences in the academic process so that lectures can be followed properly according to academic rules, as well as full scholarships to continue to Masters.

Six outstanding students in the field of sports include Andhini Muthia Maulida (a student of the Faculty of Communication Sciences who won 2 Silver Medals (4×200 Surface relay), Vania Elvira Elent Rahmadani (Fikom student won 3 Silver Medals 4×200 Surface relay and 1 time 4×200 Surface mix relay), Bima Prof. Faculty of Economics and Business won 2 Bronze Medals in Karate for Individual and Team Kumite classes – Men’s 75kg).

Unitomo Chancellor, Siti Marwiyah provides full support to students so they can excel both academically and non-academically.

“I make sure the guardian lecturers and lecturers in charge of the course will support the outstanding students so that they can fulfill all their academic agendas, so that achievements can continue, but academic obligations are also not disturbed,” said Siti Marwiyah, Chancellor of Unitomo, Tuesday (23/5 /2023).

Meanwhile, the General Chairperson of the East Java KONI, M. Nabil explained, as the main sports organization, the East Java KONI does not only pay attention to athletes’ achievements in the arena, but also outside the arena, especially education.

“This is in accordance with the direction of the Governor who wants no athletes in East Java whose education is neglected because they are too busy pursuing achievements. Athletes must at least have an undergraduate degree, especially since the Chancellor is ready to also provide scholarships up to Masters, this is extraordinary,” said M. Nabil, General Chairperson of the East Java KONI.

Nabil further added, KONI East Java really encourages athletes who are passionate about learning.

“Thank you Unitomo, for being one of the campuses that has collaborated, and so far it has proven capable of fostering athletes, so they can continue to excel without having to sacrifice their studies,” he added.
