Xavi Calls Barcelona’s Victory Over Osasuna a Giant Step
– Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez, called his team’s victory over Osasuna a giant step.
Barcelona only narrowly won 1-0 when hosting Osasuna at the Camp Nou Stadium, Wednesday (3/5/2023) early morning WIB. This victory made Barcelona widen the gap to 14 points with the strongest rival, Real Madrid. Barcelona only need one more win to confirm as La Liga champions this season.
The single goal that brought Barcelona to the maximum points was scored by Jordi Alba who maximized Frenkie De Jong’s pass. The goal was only created in the 85th minute, even though Osasuna had appeared with 10 players since the 27th minute.
Real Madrid should be able to reduce their gap in points if they beat Real Sociedad in a late game. However, Carlo Ancelotti’s troops actually lost at the Anoeta Stadium.
Speaking after the match Xavi Hernandez admitted to being frustrated with his abilities finishing his team at Spotify Camp Nou.
“I think we suffered too much. We missed very clear chances. They defended well, but in the end we scored through Jordi.”
Xavi also admitted that Barcelona is now closer to winning the La Liga title.
“This is a very important step. La Liga is almost won. These six points (against Real Betis and Osasuna) were very important for us after the defeat at Vallecas. Now we are waiting for what happened in San Sebastian. These six points are a big step.”
With a 14-point advantage over Real Madrid, Barcelona can ensure the La Liga title on May 14, when they meet hosts Espanyol in the Derbi Barceloni.
