Acclamation, Raja Sapta Oktohari Returns to Lead KOI

– Raja Sapta Oktohari has again been entrusted with leading the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia) for the 2023-2027 period together with Ismail Ning as deputy chairperson. This was confirmed after the man who is familiarly called Okto, won by acclamation at the Election Congress in Jakarta, Friday (30/6/2023) evening. Okto himself was General Chair of NOC Indonesia in the previous period, namely 2019-2023. His great contribution to Indonesian sports has earned him the trust of 66 sports parents who are registered as members of the Indonesian NOC.

“I thank everyone. I also thank my brother (Maruli Simanjuntak as head of the success team). Without him, it would be difficult for me to regain the trust of sports,” said Okto during a press conference at the Mulia Senayan Hotel, Jakarta , Friday (30/6/2023).

In fact, before the Election Congress was held, two prospective general chairman and deputy candidates enlivened the stock exchange. In addition to Okto as the incumbent, Oegroseno’s name is also displayed as a challenger, with Djoko Pekik Irianto as the candidate for the waketum. However, the candidacy for Deputy Chief of Police for the 2013-2014 period failed due to not fulfilling the requirements.

After the election procession for the General Chair and Deputy Chairperson, the agenda continues to hold elections within the organizational structure of NOC Indonesia, such as the Executive Committee (KE) and the 2023-2027 NOC Indonesia Ethics Council.

After being elected by acclamation, in the future Okto and his members will have a lot of homework to do. One of them is regarding the encouragement to carry out refreshments related to the National Sports Grand Design (DBON).

He considered that there should be refreshment for sports that are included in DBON, including accommodating non-Olympic sports which have proud projections for the Red and White on the international stage.

Even though it is recognized that Indonesia’s sporting achievements have shown an increase. However, there are still a number of notes that must be corrected in the future. “If we operate together, there is still a lot of homework for our sport,” said Okto.

He continued, there were 25 percent of sports outside DBON that won the overall championship at the 2023 SEA Games Cambodia. And there are 40 percent of sports outside DBON that are able to make history in the biennial multi-event championship in the Southeast Asia region.

For this reason, explained Okto, DBON must provide a place for sports in the non-Olympic category to achieve high achievements by getting support from the government.
