AJC 2023 Final: Beating Okimoto, Alwi Brings Indonesia Back to Excellence over Japan

– Alwi Farhan’s men’s singles lead Indonesia to a 2-1 lead over Japan in the final of the 2023 Badminton Asia Junior Championships (AJC) mixed team tournament.

Alwi scored points for the hosts after defeating Yusai Okimoto, 21-13, 14-21, 21-14, at the Amongrogo Sports Hall, Yogyakarta, Tuesday (11/7/2023).

The athlete who was born in Surakarta, May 12, 2005, admitted that he was happy to be able to end a tiring match with a win. Moreover, the victory obtained by the runner up of the Osaka International Challenge 2023 made the Indonesian team turn ahead against Japan in the final match of the 2023 BNI Badminton Asia Junior Championships.

“I’m grateful to be able to win in this fight. Today’s match was very draining and in conditions like this I only focused on listening to the coach’s instructions, “said the 2021 Bangladesh Junior International Series champion.

The victory that Alwi won was actually not easy considering the emotions of the player from Solo City had been ignited.

It was recorded that in this match, the captain of the Indonesian team received a red card from the referee so that the opponent got points.

Alwi himself admitted that he did not understand the purpose of the referee in this match who gave the red card. However, he responded to this with an open heart.

“When given a red card is annoying but I can’t be too much thought. I judged that my opponent shouted twice in front of me and the referee didn’t pay attention,” said Alwi.

“It was my fault in that condition I was provoked so that when I was in the middle of making sure the ball was still fit for use or not, I was deemed to be stalling and was given a red card. It’s all beyond my limitations,” he added runner up The Lithuanian International 2022.

Alwi Farhan himself is determined to perform even better by controlling his emotions. Apart from being physically fit and having a good match mentality, you need to control your emotions so you don’t lose your concentration and you can focus throughout the match.

“The evaluation of this match is that I hope to be able to play with more control over my emotions. So far, my game can be said to be stable and I’m not too satisfied because there’s still a lot to evaluate,” Alwi concluded.
