Belgian squad “Heats Up”, Courtois Doesn’t Accept Lukaku to Be Captain

– The Belgian national team is in turmoil after Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois left the camp due to a falling out with Romelu Lukaku.

Reports in Belgium say Courtois is dissatisfied after he was not appointed as captain for the time being The Red Devils drew 1-1 with Austria on Sunday (18/6/2023). Coach Domenico Tedesco handed over the captaincy to Lukaku, after Kevin De Bruyne resigned from the squad.

“Together we decided that Romelu would be captain against Austria and Thibaut tomorrow against Estonia. That was fine for everyone, but after the game, he suddenly wanted to talk to me and said that he was going home because he was disappointed and felt offended ,” Tedesco was quoted as saying DailyStar.

“From the start, I tried to show him the credit he deserves. In my eyes, he is the best goalkeeper in the world. I love him as a goalkeeper, but also as a person. I was very surprised,” he continued.

Tedesco’s words disappointed Courtois because the coach leaked his talk. “I was surprised to hear the coach’s press conference give a partial and subjective account of the private conversations we had after the game against Austria,” Courtois said.

“I want to make it clear that this is not the first time or the last time I have spoken to the coach about a dressing room related matter, but this is the first time someone has decided to make it public. I am very disappointed by this, but I want to make it clear that the coach’s judgment is not up to par. with reality,” he added.

Courtois emphasized that he did not demand anything at all. He claimed to have spoken to Lukaku to provide clarification relating to this situation.
