Bending Loh Kean Yew, Ginting Wins BAC 2023

– Indonesian men’s singles, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, won the 2023 Badminton Asia Championships (BAC) after defeating Loh Kean Yew, Sunday (30/4/2023).

The second ranked badminton player became the champion after defeating the Singaporean representative with a score of 21-12 and 21-8. Ginting only needed 28 minutes to secure the title in Dubai.

Ginting did appear dominant over Loh in this match. The pressure he put on made it difficult for Loh to develop the game. it’s no wonder that Ginting has a clear lead.

This victory made Ginting improve his winning streak over Loh to 4-2. The two badminton players have met five times before. Ginting has beaten the world’s seventh ranked men’s singles three times. These three wins were achieved in their last three meetings.

In the first two meetings with Loh, namely at the 2014 Indonesian Masters and the 2022 Thomas Cup, Ginting always lost. But after that, Ginting dominated and always won.

The first match against Loh that Ginting won was in the semifinals of the 2022 Singapore Open. At that time Ginting won, 21-17, 21-14. Ginting was again able to beat Loh in the quarter-finals of the Hylo Open 2022. Ginting won with a score of 21-13 and 21-14.

Ginting’s third victory over the 25-year-old player occurred at the 2022 BWF World Tour Finals. In the match in Bangkok, Thailand, Ginting also won with a score of 21-13, 23-21.

Ginting advanced to the BAC 2023 finals, after defeating the Japanese representative, Kante Tsuneyama. Relying on cross ball play, Ginting managed to outwit the 15th ranked player and won 21-13, 21-16. Ginting who is the second seed in this championship advanced to the final after playing 37 minutes.

In the previous match, seventh seeds Yuki Fukushima/Sayaka Hirota successfully won the women’s doubles title. They became champions after defeating South Korea’s doubles match, Baek Ha Na/Lee So Hee, 21-
7 and 21-14.

Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles, the first seeds Zheng Si Wei/Huang Ya Qiong only became runners up after losing to their compatriots, Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin. Jiang/Wei won the gold medal after beating their opponents 21-15 and 21-16.

In the women’s singles, the Taiwanese representative who is also the fourth seed, Tai Tzu Ying succeeded in becoming the champion after defeating the player who was ranked above her, namely An Se Young, 21-10, 21-14.
