Blind Runner Makes History, Arutmin Borneo Run Breaks Muri Record

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com – The story of a blind or visually impaired runner, namely Amelia Nilam Tiara, who successfully finished in the Arutmin Borneo Run long-distance race in Kalimantan, has become a new history in the world of sports, especially athletics.

Amelia's participation as a blind runner in this long-distance race resulted in the Arutmin Borneo Run winning two awards from the Indonesian World Records Museum (Muri) at once.

The first Muri record award was handed over by Muri Director Osmar Susilo to Arutmin on Monday (25/3/2024) for its achievements as the mining company that organizes the most running competitions in Indonesia. In total, running competitions have been held 15 times in Indonesia from 2006 to 2023.

Meanwhile, the second award is in recognition of the participation of the first blind or visually impaired participant in the 2023 edition of a running race in Indonesia recorded at the Arutmin Borneo Run.

Despite having limitations, the East Kalimantan paralympic athlete was able to complete the 5 km race at the 2023 Arutmin Borneo Run with a record time of 30 minutes 51 seconds.

“So I was advised by the campus to take part in the Arutmin Borneo Run competition. Finally I registered and was able to finish. Not bad fully tired but it's safe and under control. “This is the first time I've taken part in long-distance running because usually it's only 100 and 200 meters,” said Amel during a press conference at the Elite Club Rasuna Epicentrum Kuningan, South Jakarta, Monday (25/3/2024).

CEO of PT Arutmin Indonesia Ido Hutabarat was honored by this award. Therefore, his party's commitment to continue to improve the campaign for public health and welfare through sports activities will continue to be a priority.

“In 2024, this running event will be held again. If there are no obstacles, the Arutmin Borneo Run 2024 will take place on November 3 in Banjarbaru, South Kalimantan with a target of 4,000 runners,” he said.

“A number of interesting things are being prepared by the team to always improve the quality of the competition improve from year to year. Tracks “or the route will be very interesting because it passes through forests with beautiful nature,” he added.

This event has been held every year since 2006. Thus, this year's edition will be the 16th event for the Arutmin Borneo Run.

The organizing committee explained that the distance categories for the race to be held were divided into three, namely 5 kilometers, 10 kilometers, and half marathon or 21 kilometers. Apart from that, this event is also open to students, the public, masters 40 up And master 50 up.
