Challenge Gregoria in the Second Round of BAC 2023, Komang Nothing to Lose

Indonesia confirmed one representative in the quarter-finals of the Badminton Asia Championships (Badminton Asia Championship) or BAC 2023. This certainty was obtained after women’s singles Gregoria Mariska Tunjung will face her junior, Komang Ayu Cahya Dewi in the second round, Thursday (27/4/2023).

In the first match, Wednesday (26/4/2023) both of them won in the match which was held at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). Komang beat India’s women’s singles Aakarshi Kashyap 21-6, 21-12, while Gregoria won over Taiwan representative Pai Yu-po in a three-game battle, 19-21, 21-11, 21-7.

Facing his seniors, Komang admitted that he would play free. He hopes to absorb a lot of knowledge and experience from the 2023 Spain Master champion.

“Tomorrow, I’ll fight Gregoria, my senior. I shouldn’t have any pressure. So tomorrow I’ll be learning while also absorbing knowledge from him. Winning or losing is a matter of later. I’ll nothing to lose of course,” said Komang in a written statement from PP PBSI.

Komang admitted that he was happy to be able to advance to the second round, especially when he was recovering from injury.

“Today I tried to play as usual. The coach also said to take out what I have,” said Komang.

Meanwhile, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who had to work hard to qualify for the second round of BAC 2023, admits that she did not appear perfect in the first match.

“To be honest, I already knew how I wanted to play today. However, there were some mistakes that I shouldn’t have made in the first game. Luckily, in the second and third games, I wasn’t affected by the results of the previous game,” said Gregoria.

Gregoria admits that she will improve her playing pattern in the match against her junior, Komang, who is 3 years younger than her.

“Tomorrow I want to be maximal and for sure Komang will also do the same. He also definitely has a target to beat me. Hopefully tomorrow I won’t be burdened because Komang is younger than me and several times my results have not been good against my juniors,” said the badminton player the 23 year old.
