Chico and Febriana/Amalia Win Tickets to the Taipei Open Semifinals

– Two Indonesian representatives, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo and women’s doubles Febriana Dwipuji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi, successfully advanced to the semifinals of the Taipei Open after defeating their opponents.

Chico is entitled to a place in the top four after defeating the Japanese men’s singles, Kenta Nishimoyo, at the Tian-Mu Arena, Taipei, Friday (23/6/2023). Meanwhile, Febriana/Amalia also got tickets for the semifinals after defeating the US doubles, Annie Xu/Kerry Xu, 21-14, 21-15.

Chico, who is now in 23rd place in the world, defeated Nishimoto with a score of 21-13 and 21-15. Chico conquered the 11th ranked men’s singles in 47 minutes.

Chico was actually left behind at the start of the game when Nishimoto took the first two points and won 2-0. But Chico never gave up and kept trying to fight.

Chico’s efforts were not in vain because he then managed to equalize. Both players had chased each other in producing points. There were six draws and the score was 9-9. Chico then overtook and took an 11-9 lead so an interval ensued.

Relying on smashes combined with excellent ball finishing, Chico continued to add points and was never caught by Nishimoto. The 25-year-old finally finished the first game with a 21-15 advantage.

Entering the second game, Chico again showed his superiority over the 28-year-old Japanese badminton player. He excelled from the start of the second game and was 5-1 up. However, Nishimota put up a tough fight and then managed to equalize at 8-8 and 9-9. Chico then regained control of the game.

He racked up three straight points and went 12-8. Nishimoto had almost equalized and narrowed down to 12-13. But again found his flagship game and continued to earn points and won three consecutive points twice and won 19-13. Shortly thereafter, the Malaysia Masters 2022 champion finished the second game 21-13.

In the previous match, two representatives of Indonesia were stopped in the quarter-finals. Women’s singles, Putri Kusuma Wardani, failed to advance to the semifinals after being defeated by third seed from the United States Beiwen Zhang, 15-21, 17-21.

In the mixed doubles, the Red and White representatives Jafar Hidayatullah/Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata also failed to go further because they were stopped by the Taiwan doubles, Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Lin Xiao Min, 12-21, 21-19, and 17-21.
