Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Nezar Patria Shares 3 Ways to Overcome Cyber ​​Threats in Indonesia

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Deputy Minister of Communication and Information (Wamenkominfo) Nezar Patria revealed that global cyber security cases had jumped significantly from 2019 by 40% and more than 77% in 2023.

“Cybersecurity is at the core of almost every aspect of our lives. Moreover, with our increasing dependence on digital technology, cyber security cases have experienced a significant spike,” he said as quoted on the site web Kominfo, Monday (1/4/2024).

Indonesia is ranked 48th out of 176 countries with a cyber security index of 63.64 and 5th in Southeast Asia.

In the UGM Ramadan Public Lecture at the UGM Yogyakarta Campus Mosque, recently, Nezar said that the industries that are the main targets of cyber threats are industries that store personal data or are involved in a wide ecosystem with other units.

“This shows the need to increase efforts to strengthen cyber security in Indonesia,” he said.

In order to overcome cyber security threats, the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information stated the importance of using three approaches.

“First, increasing the use of cloud-based services. Second, carrying out digital transformation. Then third, strengthening public awareness of cyber attacks,” he explained.

Nezar Patria also emphasized the importance of protecting personal data and respecting other people's private domains.
