Eliminated in the BAC Semifinals, Dejan/Gloria admit that their opponents are more prepared
– Indonesian mixed doubles, Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja, admitted that their opponents were indeed better prepared so they were eliminated in the semifinals of the Asian Badminton Championships or Badninton Asia Championship (BAC) 2023, Saturday (29/4/2023).
Dejan/Gloria stopped in the last four after surrendering to Chinese representatives, Jiang Zhen Bang/Wei Ya Xin. Playing at the Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall, Al Nasr Club, Dubai, Dejan/Gloria surrendered to the world’s 21st ranked doubles with a score of 17-21, 15-21. Dejan/Gloria’s steps stopped after 35 minutes of fighting.
“Still grateful for the results of being able to reach the semifinals. Today we admit that our opponents were more prepared, they were in from the start and we were constantly under pressure. In the first and second games we tried to do everything we could to get out of the pressure but it didn’t work,” said Dejan as quoted from PBSI.
“On the field, when we don’t get the pattern we want, we have to learn to work it out because sometimes the situation on the field is different from our expectations,” said the 23-year-old badminton player.
While Gloria admitted that their performance had indeed decreased when compared to when they appeared in the first round to the quarter-finals. In Friday’s match, Dejan/Gloria defeated Indian representatives, Rohan Kapoor/Reddy Sikki, 21-18, 19-21, and 21-15. Dejan/Gloria are entitled to appear in the semifinals after fighting for 1 hour and 5 minutes.
“From the first round to yesterday’s quarter-finals, we felt our performance was good but today our performance has decreased. We don’t know what the factors are, later after this we will discuss it with the coach. Overalls“With this good preparation, the results are also good,” he said.
The defeat against the Chinese doubles in the semifinals made Dejan/Gloria fail to follow in the footsteps of their colleague Anthony Sinisuka Ginting who successfully advanced to the final match which was held on Sunday (20/4/2023).
Ginting advanced to the BAC 2023 finals, after defeating the Japanese representative, Kante Tsuneyama. Relying on cross ball play, Ginting managed to outwit the 15th ranked player and won 21-13, 21-16. Ginting who is the second seed in this championship advanced to the final after playing 37 minutes.
In the final round, Sunday (30/4/2023), Ginting will meet Singapore’s representative, Loh Kean Yew. The seventh seed has the right to appear in the final match after defeating Lu Guang Zu from China with a score of 21-19 and 21-15.
