Facebook imitates TikTok, the social media giant will introduce a vertical video format in the application
Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Facebook doesn't seem to want to be left behind by their competitors in the social media realm, namely TikTok. Therefore, the company is working to introduce new Facebook features.
Recently, the social media platform created by Mark Zuckerberg introduced a vertical video format similar to the popular platform TikTok.
Indeed, TikTok's typical vertical video format is on the rise, and is being adopted by many other social media platforms in an effort to attract new users.
With a larger user base, of course Facebook doesn't want to miss this trend. It is stated that all Reels on Facebook, along with long-form video content and Live will be displayed in full in vertical format.
Quoting Mashable, Friday (5/4/2024), this social media giant claims to have better recommendations for all videos according to the interests of Facebook users.
“For example, we might recommend Reels that give you inspiration for a quick daily makeup routine, or longer video tutorials on DIY home repairs from experienced parties,” Facebook wrote in a blog post about the changes.
Not only that, the company also includes buttons at the bottom so users can rewind or fast forward the video, pause it, and change the playback speed – just like in Bytedance's application.
If a video is made vertically, users will have the option to watch it in landscape view and flip the Android or iOS phone to view it in full screen mode.
Reportedly, Facebook will start rolling out the application update in the next few weeks. Because of this format change, content creators may want to start posting Reels if they want their videos to be seen on Facebook.
Facebook's move to launch a vertical video format shows that the social media platform continues to adapt and develop. Competition between platforms is increasingly fierce, and innovation is key to attracting and retaining social media users.
