Jokowi Celebrates Together with the Minister Watching the Indonesian National Team Beat Vietnam 3-0

Palu, Beritasatu.com – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) watched the Indonesian national football team match against Vietnam in the 2026 World Cup Qualification match in Asia Zone Group F with a final score of 3-0 for Indonesia. The nobar event took place at a hotel in Palu City, Central Sulawesi, on Tuesday (26/3/2024) evening.

Not only Jokowi, a number of ministers also attended the event, including PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, and Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman.

In the video uploaded by the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube account, Jokowi and the ministers were seen cheering together when the Indonesian national team managed to score a goal against Vietnam.

After the match, Jokowi immediately called the General Chair of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) and Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir to congratulate the Indonesian national team on their victory.

In the match which was held at My Dinh Stadium, Hanoi, Vietnam, the Garuda squad opened the scoring in the 9th minute through a goal from Jay Idzes. Ragnar Oratmangoen doubled the lead in the 23rd minute, while a goal from Ramadhan Sananta in the 90+8th minute completed the Garuda team's victory.

This victory was the first for the Indonesian national team at home to Vietnam in the last 20 years. At that time, the Garuda squad beat the hosts 3-0 in the 2004 Tiger Cup group phase, to be precise on December 11 2004.

With this result, the Indonesian national team is in second place in the Group F standings with a score of 7, 5 points adrift of the leaders, Iraq, who managed to beat the Philippines by five goals without reply.
