KONI Appoints Agus Suparmanto as Chairman of PB IKASI for the 2022-2026 period

The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI) officially inaugurated and confirmed Agus Suparmanto as General Chair of the All Indonesian Fencing Association (IKASI) for the 2022-2026 period at the KONI Head Office, Gelora Bung Karno (GBK), Senayan, Jakarta on Friday (23/6/ 2023).

This inauguration was carried out based on the results of the National Conference (Munas) which was held in Bali on Saturday, 3 December 2022.

The General Chairperson of the Central KONI Lt. Gen. (Purn) Marciano Norman emphasized to the General Chairperson of PB IKASI and also the Secretary General of PB IKASI Mohamad Hekal and all of his management to work hard, take advantage of available opportunities, and bring Indonesian fencing athletes to achieve achievements in various sporting events, both regional scale such as the SEA Games and Asian Games, as well as world events such as the Olympics and championships organized by the International Fencing Federation.

“To realize this great potential, good and healthy management is needed in sports organizations. Therefore, we ask the Ikasi management to improve organizational governance, develop athletes, recruit potential athletes in all regions, and run sustainable and structured competitions,” said Marciano.

He hopes that Agus Suparmanto and all Ikasi management can carry out this mandate as well as possible in an effort to reorganize the organization at the district and provincial levels.

“The main focus is on coaching athletes and also with international cooperation programs which have been done before,” hoped Marciano.

IKASI General Chairperson Agus Suparmanto who was just appointed emphasized that fencing coaching cannot happen instantly, therefore, coaching efforts are needed from an early age to produce sustainable achievements.

In addition, more frequent activities will be held to improve the quality of the matches, such as through cooperation with other countries that have good fencing achievements.

“We will conduct wider outreach so that fencing is better known and popular in the community. We are committed to developing regular tournaments in order to increase the popularity of fencing. Not only that, the coaching program will involve all levels of society, including those who want to practice fencing as a hobby,” said Agus.

IKASI will also prepare themselves to face the upcoming Pre-PON and national championships. Participation in Pre-PON and this championship will be an important step in preparing fencing athletes to excel in the upcoming PON.

“We express our gratitude for the support of all those who have played a role in the development of the fencing branch in Indonesia. Together, we will achieve glorious achievements and make fencing one of the pride of the nation,” concluded Agus.
