League 1: PSM Holds Persija at GBK

– PSM Makassar won one point after drawing 1-1 against Persija Jakarta in the League 1 match which was held at the Bung Karno Main Stadium (GBK), Jakarta, Monday (3/7/2023) evening.

With this result, PSM is ranked ninth in the Liga 1 standings, while Persija is ranked 11th. Both teams managed to collect one point from their opening matches.

The game started with both teams playing cautiously but aggressively. PSM were the first team to threaten with a shot from Everton that hit Hansamu Yama, resulting in the first corner of the game.

Moments later, PSM again threatened through an attack from Yakob Sayuri which goalkeeper Andritany managed to block.

Finally, the visitors managed to score in the 12th minute. Starting from a free kick on the right side of the Persija defense, the ball was headed by Kenzo Nambu and could not be stopped by Andritany, so a goal was created and brought PSM to the lead.

After conceding, Persija tried to get up, but they had difficulty breaking through PSM’s tight defense. PSM’s foreign players often win aerial duels by taking advantage of their physical advantage.

Persija continues to try to create threats against PSM. Ryo Matsumura’s free kick was saved by goalkeeper Reza Arya Pratama.

Ryo again troubled PSM’s defense after successfully stealing the ball from the opponent, but Witan Sulaeman could not complete his pass.

Before the first half ended, Persija got a good chance through a free kick. Firza Andika’s hard execution was pushed over by the goalkeeper.

Persija’s good chance to equalize the score again fell to Firza, but his shot went wide of the PSM goal. The first half ended with a 1-0 lead for the visitors.

PSM tried to score at the start of the second half. Wiljan Pluim got a low cross which he grabbed, but the ball hit a Persija player and was caught by Andritany.

Finally, the equalizing goal that Persija was waiting for came in the 81st minute. Japanese player, Ryo, became a hero for the hosts by releasing an accurate shot from outside the penalty box that entered the top corner of the PSM goal.

After Persija’s equaliser, the match was filled with tension as both teams played harder. However, there was no excessive conflict that occurred until the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
