“We are still waiting for a response from PSSI and FIFA. After that, we will have a joint meeting. The budget allocation will be discussed further because it goes through the applicable processes and mechanisms. The use of the state budget must go through a rigorous and lengthy process, so we must be thorough,” said the Menpora.

As is known, the U-17 World Cup is planned to be held from 10 November to 2 December 2023. Until now, the government and sports federations have not decided which stadiums will be used as venues for this prestigious sporting event.

However, based on the projections of the stadiums originally prepared for the U-20 World Cup, Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (DKI Jakarta), Jakabaring Stadium (Palembang), Si Jalak Harupat Stadium (Bandung), Manahan Stadium (Solo), Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium ( Surabaya), and the Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium (Bali) have the potential to become the location for this grand event.

Previously, the U-20 World Cup was actually held in Indonesia, last May 20-11. However, FIFA revoked Indonesia’s host status, one of which was allegedly due to the polemic over the existence of the Israeli national team.

Indonesia itself was finally appointed as the host of the 2023 U-17 World Cup, replacing Peru which was constrained by infrastructure problems.
