PSSI Ready to Hold National Team Player Selection for the U-17 World Cup

– Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir said he would prepare the selection of Indonesian national team players to compete in the U-17 World Cup which will be held in Indonesia on 10 November – 2 December 2023.

Erick said, the process of selecting Indonesian national team players was carried out seriously, both from the U-16 and U-17 national teams. This selection process was also carried out in 9 regions of Indonesia.

“We also have to seriously prepare for the U-16 and U-17 national teams. So we will make a plan to select U-16 and U-17 players in 9 regions. After we can map out we will combine them later in July (2023) ,” said Erick during a press conference at the Danareksa Tower, Central Jakarta, Saturday (24/6/2023) afternoon.

Erick said, after mapping out the national team players, PSSI would do it training camp at home and abroad in August-October 2023.

“We hope there can be a number of good preparatory matches with countries from Europe, Asia, Africa, of course, so they won’t be surprised when they prepare for the U-17 world championship later,” Erick added.

In addition, Erick said preparations for the U-17 World Cup were still running side by side with the Indonesian League 1 event.

“At the same time last night I immediately called the Indonesian League for us to make preparations, how to keep Liga 1 running, all that’s left is how do we compromise so that this event can run optimally, but Liga 1 is also running optimally. This is an opportunity for us to synergize,” stressed Erick.

It is known, Indonesia has been officially appointed by FIFA to host the U-17 World Cup. The world football body announced this through its social media, Friday (23/4/2023). Previously the U-17 World Cup was scheduled to be held in Peru. However, FIFA revoked Peru’s status as host because it was deemed unprepared.
