U-17 World Cup: PSSI Appoints Bima Sakti as U-17 Indonesian National Team Coach

– Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Erick Thohir appointed Bima Sakti as the coach of the Indonesian National Team (U-17 National Team) in the 2023 U-17 World Cup.

Erick reasoned that the appointment of Bima as a trainer was to provide opportunities for young coaches.

“We think we’ll give him a chance coach Bima, yes we need coach-coach young. In management coach Shin Tae-Yong exists coach Nova and coach-coach new. Indra Sjafri’s management at the SEA Games was a lot coach young. This I think is positive, so we’ll give it to coach Bima Sakti,” Erick explained during a press conference at the Danareksa Tower, Central Jakarta, Saturday (24/6/2023) afternoon.

Erick said that Bima would likely be assisted by a co-coach to prepare the Indonesian national team for the U-17 World Cup.

“Later we will definitely discuss it at the Exco, maybe there will be a companion, because this is a world championship. We will discuss whoever the companion will be,” he added.

“We also have to prepare the U-16 and U-17 national teams seriously, so we will make plans to select the U-16 and U-17 in 9 regions so that after we can map out we will combine them later in July (2023). ” he said.

Erick said that after mapping the national team players, PSSI would conduct training camps at home and abroad in August-October 2023.

“We hope there can be a number of good preparatory matches with countries from Europe, Asia, Africa, of course, so they won’t be surprised when they prepare for the U-17 world championship later,” Erick added.

It is known that Indonesia has been officially appointed by FIFA to host the U-17 World Cup. The world football body announced this through its social media, Friday (23/4/2023). Previously the U-17 World Cup was scheduled to be held in Peru. However, FIFA revoked Peru’s status as host because it was deemed unprepared.
