Removing the Political Content in JIS Renovation, Erick Thohir: If FIFA Comes Today It Will Be Aborted

– PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir said that the plan to renovate the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is to meet the standards set by FIFA. For this reason, he does not want to worry about the issue of the politicization of the renovation.

Erick emphasized that the renovation plan was not aimed at attacking former DKI governor Anies Baswedan.

“If there are accusations that this is political, let it be. I don’t want to bother. As for me, I work professionally. I do it according to the existing standards,” said Erick at a press conference at the Danareksa Tower, Wednesday (5/7/2023) .

He also said that an international standard stadium does not necessarily meet FIFA standards.

“Yesterday when Argentina played, FIFA did not interfere in determining the suitability of the match stadium. But from the Argentine side, this sent its own representative to check the eligibility, he has standards. FIFA’s standards are even higher,” he explained.

According to Erick, there are various indicators that need to be considered in fulfilling FIFA standard stadiums.

The chairman of the PSSI even said that the JIS stadium would be immediately removed as the venue for the U-17 World Cup if FIFA carried out the verification at this time.

“If FIFA comes today, the bet with me will definitely be crossed out. So, what we want to do with this good intention is to ensure that JIS can enter the FIFA qualification. This is not a mistake, we want (JIS) to pass FIFA standards,” he said. .
