Taipei Open 2023 Results: Winning the Civil War, Jafar/Aisyah to the Quarterfinals

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Taipei Open 2023 presents a civil war match in the round of 16. This happened when Indonesian mixed doubles badminton players Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari met Jafar Hidayatullah/Aisyah Salsabila Putri Pranata.

Competing at the Tian-MU Arena, Thursday (22/6/2023) afternoon WIB, the match was won by Jafar/Aisyah. In 42 minutes, the pair defeated second seeds and seniors Rino/Pitha via rubber game 15-21, 21-13, and 21-19.

“Definitely happy to be able to win against the senior pair in the national training,” said Jaffar after the match. “However, it’s also sad to have to meet in person in the early rounds, especially since Bang Rinov is also chasing points towards the Paris Olympics. But let’s just be professional when we’re in the middle of the field.”

Jafar admitted that he was nervous at the start of the match. “However, I am more motivated to win. Especially in the second game when we were leading,” he said.

“The opponent didn’t seem calm, because earlier there were a lot of easy balls, but instead they died alone. We just played recklessly and didn’t want to lose. The important thing was that we put up a fight first.”

In the quarter-finals of the Taipei Open, Jafar/Aisyah faced the host pair Chiu Hsiang Chieh/Lin Xiao Min. So far, the two couples have only met once and won by Chiu/Lin.

Jafar/Aisyah lost 21-19, 16-21, and 18-21 at the Thailand Open on May 30. “After this match, most of all we want to rest and maintain our condition. Also watch the video of the opponent’s game. After that, we will focus again on tomorrow’s match,” concluded Jafar.
