This New WhatsApp Feature Will Protect Users from Hackers

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Meta, WhatsApp's parent company, is constantly rolling out new features to the popular messaging application around the world.

Currently, a number of new WhatsApp features are claimed to protect user privacy, such as blocking screenshots of profile photos.

Apart from that, Meta is also beta testing encryption indicators end-to-end to tell users their conversations are safe or not.

So, this time the WhatsApp feature is making more efforts to protect users by improving the application locking feature.

Quoting WABetaInfo via Android AuthorityWednesday (20/3/2024), updates WhatsApp 2.24.6.20 will introduce an option to unlock the app.

The options for unlocking WhatsApp include fingerprint, Face ID, or the cellphone passcode used.

“When users activate application lock, they can use their fingerprint, face or other unique identifier to open WhatsApp,” WABetaInfo quoted.

If it is true that this feature on WhatsApp will be launched, then cellphones with damaged or non-functioning biometric sensors can use other methods to unlock the application.

WhatsApp currently offers two ways to secure conversations on the app, the first is with an app lock, and the second is through a chat lock for certain conversations.

If you want to secure certain chats, users need to use their fingerprint or face to unlock them.

The WhatsApp update appears to only apply to app lock, not chat lock. It remains unclear whether this will be introduced at a later date.

Currently, the update is only available to a few beta testers with the hope that it will roll out to more users in the coming days.

However, users are warned against installing this particular beta update as some experienced crashes when opening the app.

Instead, WhatsApp beta testers are advised to wait for a future update, which might fix this particular issue.
