Absent at the Spanish MotoGP, Marc Marquez hopes to appear in France

Honda MotoGP team rider Marc Marquez will miss this weekend’s Spanish Grand Prix as he recovers from a hand injury. But hopes to be fit for next month’s race in France, his team said on Wednesday (26/4/2023).

Marc Marquez underwent surgery on his right hand after colliding at the season opener at the Portugal MotoGP last month and missed the final round at Texas.

Honda said the six-time world champion underwent checks on Tuesday and his medical team advised him to continue his recovery and focus on a possible return to the French MotoGP, which is scheduled for May 12-14.

“Yesterday, I did another CT scan and it has been confirmed that, despite the fact that the injury is progressing well, the healing of the bone has not been completed and the Jerez race is a risk,” Marquez said in a team statement.

“Together with the medical team, we decided not to take any risks, wait another two weeks and return to Le Mans.”

Marc Marquez will be replaced by Iker Lecuona at the Spanish GP.
