NBA Cup Tournament Is Ready To Be Held, Follow European Football Competition Style

The NBA has officially announced its highly anticipated in-season tournament, the NBA Cup (NBA Cup).

The announcement was made during the NBA2K24 Summer League in Las Vegas, and it marks a significant step forward in the NBA’s longstanding vision of bringing European cup-style competition to the US basketball league.

As part of a major announcement on Saturday, the NBA unveiled the six groups of five clubs that will make up the group stage of the tournament.

Each Conference will have three separate groups determined using a World Cup-style drawing process.

Each conference is divided into five pots based on last year’s regular season standings.

Pot 1 features the top three clubs from each conference, including the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers in the East.

The remaining pots are allocated based on team rankings, ensuring an even distribution of talent across groups.

In the group stage, clubs will compete in four matches against the other teams in their group. The game will be played on seven dates in November, on Fridays and Tuesdays.

The top club from each group, along with the best club that has not won the group leader in each conference, will advance to the knockout stages.

“This tournament in the NBA season has been in the works for about 15 years. The time has come for new traditions and new innovations in the sport, and this is our moment,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

The knockout stages will kick off with quarter-final matches held at the seeded clubs’ home arenas on December 4 and 5.

The winner of the NBA Cup will receive a $500,000 prize pool, while the runners-up club will take home $200,000 each.

Those who fail in the quarter-finals and semifinals will still receive a hefty payout.
