League 1: Fellow Supporters are in Chaos, This is PSM Makassar’s Attitude

– PSM Makassar management responded seriously to the incident of clashes between supporters in the south open tribune at Gelora BJ Habibie Stadium, Parepare, when PSM Makassar hosted Dewa United in the second week of League 1 2023/2024, Saturday (8/7/2023). The incident resulted in injuries, both from fans and security officers.

The police also arrested a number of suspected perpetrators of rioting.

After the match, management delivered several official statements through the media officer, Sulaiman Karim, who was met at the players’ dormitory, Jalan Nuri, Mariso District.

To journalists B UniverseSulaiman expressed his deepest apologies to all footballers in Indonesia for the incident and regretted it.

“We really regret and regret. Hopefully this is the last incident and it won’t happen again,” he said.

He said the club’s management immediately collected evidence and reports of the incident which would then be investigated and then followed up. Regarding this incident, management will act decisively against the persons involved.

According to him, the club will take anticipatory steps to prevent the incident from happening again, including coordinating and asking for directions from PSSI, PT Liga Indonesia Baru, and the Indonesian National Police.

“Management will immediately coordinate with PSSI, PT Liga and the police to collect related reports and evidence,” he said.

He appealed to all supporters to jointly maintain the good name of PSM Makassar and asked that there be no more ego or group interests that would harm the club.

“The most important thing is that there are no group egos, because we know that PSM’s journey this season is very tough. For that, we really hope for the cooperation of the supporters,” he said.

Sulaiman also expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the quick and appropriate response of the security personnel in handling this incident so that it did not spread and did not disrupt the match.

The commotion occurred between fellow PSM Fans supporters who were identified by all-black clothes. They seemed to chase each other and beat until they threw each other. Luckily, the commotion did not last long and spread to other parts of the stands and inside the stadium because security officers anticipated it quickly.

It seems that some of the fans who were involved in the commotion immediately left the stadium and the match was resumed.

The riot resulted in 4 people receiving injuries to their heads that oozed fresh blood. They were then rushed to an ambulance outside the stadium for treatment. Although the victims admitted that they were hit by stone and iron fragments, the overall condition of the victims was not too severe and they were allowed to be treated as outpatients.

Apart from the supporters, a police officer was also injured when breaking up the rioting and has received medical treatment.

In the chaos, the security forces arrested 4 people suspected of instigating the riots who are currently being investigated at the Parepare Police Headquarters and are facing criminal penalties.

As for the trigger for the riots, based on the results of a preliminary investigation by the police, this was due to a prolonged internal conflict.

The match between PSM Makassar vs Dewa United ended in a painful defeat for the hosts. PSM must be defeated with a score of 1-2. The hosts’ goal was scored in the 19th minute through Kenzo Nambu, while the visitors’ two goals were scored by Dimitrios Kolosov in the 48th minute and Alex at the end of the second half.
