Regarding the eligibility of JIS to hold the U-17 World Cup, Erick Thohir: FIFA decides

– Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI), Erick Thohir, revealed that FIFA will conduct an inspection of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) as the location for the U-17 World Cup.

“FIFA will conduct an inspection first to check which stadium meets the standards. Before FIFA arrives, we will also carry out a check,” said Erick Thohir in the Jakarta presidential palace on Monday (3/7/2023).

It is known, the FIFA Council officially appointed Indonesia as the host of the U-17 World Cup which will be participated by 24 countries. The announcement was made by FIFA on 23 June 2023. FIFA has scheduled the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023 to take place from 10 November to 2 December this year.

For your information, the 2023 U-17 World Cup was actually planned to be held in Peru in 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U-17 World Cup had to be postponed until 2023. Finally Peru was dropped because it was deemed not to meet the infrastructure requirements after hosting .

Previously, President Joko Widodo gave directions to the General Chairperson of PSSI, Erick Thohir, to consider other stadiums that could be used as venues for the 2023 U-17 World Cup matches.

According to the President, the government and PSSI will find a solution considering that the FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023 will take place from 10 November to 2 December 2023 and coincides with the Coldplay music concert which is scheduled for 15 November 2023 at the GBK Main Stadium Senayan.

“It’s waiting for the arrival of the FIFA team, so we have to make a visit first,” added Erick.

Erick explained that his party would not carry out renovations at JIS until there was an inspection from FIFA.
