SEA Games 2023: Karate Trainer Smells of Alleged Fraud Experienced by the Indonesian Team
– There are alleged indications of cheating experienced by Indonesian karateka at the SEA Games 2023 Cambodia. The coach of the Indonesian karate team, Idris Gusti, sniffed out this alleged fraud when accompanying karateka Coki Istri Agung Sanistyarani to face karateka from Vietnam.
“There was an incoming attack from our athletes at a 3-4 score for Vietnam’s advantage. The three judges raised their flags and declared entry, and it turned out that the tatami manager from Kuwait annulled the point or score,” Idris said at a press conference at the Chroy Changvar Convention Center Phnom Penh, Cambodia, Monday (8/5/2023) quoted Between.
Idris Gusti had protested and asked for a form of protest, but this was not allowed. He was even pulled out by the security forces. Even though according to him it is a legal rule of the WKF (World Karate Federation) competition that has been in force in world karate.
“So, since yesterday we have been harmed like that,” he said.
Regardless of the incident, he appreciated the struggle of his athletes who he considered had given the best performance.
“We saw injustice but thank God the children competed so extraordinary for the Red and White. Thanks to the NOC who both supported us to protest. From me, God willing, we will try to do better next time,” he said.
Meanwhile Karate Team Manager Yusran Arief added that he had submitted a protest to related parties such as the WKF and the Asian Karate Federation (AKF) which would be copied to the Indonesian Sports Committee (KOI/NOC Indonesia).
“To be honest, the Indonesian karate team, especially in terms of the men’s team, men’s individual, and earlier the men’s team felt cheated. We are writing letters of protest to AKF and WKF which are also copied to NOC Indonesia,” he said.
