Regarding JIS, these are FIFA standard stadium requirements

– The Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) recently became a polemic regarding the feasibility of holding international matches after Indonesia was appointed by FIFA to host the 2023 U-17 World Cup. The stadium which is located in North Jakarta was eyed to be one of the hosts because the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium was in time at the same time it was rented for a Coldplay concert.

It became a polemic because some parties considered that JIS did not meet FIFA standard stadiums, but there were some people who considered the stadium to be quite luxurious and had met FIFA standard stadiums.

As is known a football stadium must meet several main requirements to get recognition from the world soccer body FIFA.

As the President of FIFA said, football stadiums are the essence of football culture. Having proper infrastructure is very important for the development of football in any country.

Football players and spectators deserve a well-built stadium for a good quality game of football to be played and watched. Arenas around the world must meet certain requirements to become FIFA-certified stadiums.

Fifa standard

In order to successfully organize an international level tournament or a high level domestic tournament, a country must have a FIFA standard stadium. Whether it’s a tournament involving elite level soccer players or players from a younger age bracket, there are a number of requirements that must be met.

The aim of these guidelines is to provide a global benchmark for soccer stadiums. A stadium must meet the main requirements and be socially, economically and environmentally friendly. Before entering into the technical requirements of FIFA standard football stadiums, these stadiums must go through a process of initiation, design, construction and operating guidelines.

The project initiation (stadium) should benefit the local community. Design relates to the type of pitch, stands and availability of a roof which makes the stadium accessible to all types of spectators and caters to their specific needs. Building a future-proof, environmentally-friendly and climate-resistant stadium is very important as a FIFA standard stadium.

Game Field

For smaller FIFA standard stadiums, FIFA recommends a total clearance of four meters behind each goal line and three meters beyond each touch line before placing perimeter billboards.

The court surface must be natural grass or approved synthetic turf. Stadiums must have adequate lighting for night matches, with an average lighting level of at least 2,500 lux.

Stadiums must have seating for at least 5,000 spectators, with at least 1,000 seats covered. In addition, FIFA-standard stadiums must meet safety and security requirements, including fire safety and emergency evacuation plans. The stadium must also have adequate facilities for media and medical personnel.

In addition, each stadium must be equipped with two goals of suitable quality and safety. The two goals must be placed in the middle of each goal line at the same distance from the goalposts. It is normal for stadiums that regularly host professional football to have two full-size replacement goals on standby, for emergency situations when the original goal is damaged during a game.
